Brad Davis

Brad Davis, the lightning-fast, Grammy-winning guitar-picker known in the industry as The Shredder, is stepping out of the shadows of his years as a studio and touring guitarist and is hell-bent on proving once and for all, he can hold his own as a solo artist. This guitar virtuoso is finally taking his turn as band leader with an arsenal of rock-and-roll experiences and self-penned songs. Brad is getting back to his roots with album-oriented rock and his original fast-paced picking technique he calls the Double-Down-Up. His new-found independence; however, comes on the heels of an enormously successful career as touring band member du jour to some of musics big names. Country singer Marty Stuarts road band was home to The Shredder for a decade. Since 2003, he has played lead acoustic guitar with folk legend Earl Scruggs and Friends, and for the past six years he has played lead electric and acoustic guitar with actor Billy Bob Thornton's rock band, The Boxmasters. From 2003 to 2004, Brad toured with newgrass originator Sam Bush and the Sam Bush Band and in 2005, he performed with John Jorgenson's Gypsy Jazz Quintet. Playing all kinds of music is a way to keep your creativity on fire, smiles Brad. It is great to have soaked up some of the best music lighter-fluid can offer. Not only does he have a vast repertoire of touring gigs under his belt, Brad has also worked or recorded with countless musical powerhouses like Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Pam Tillis, The Forester Sisters, Tommy Shaw, David Lee Roth, Sheryl Crow and Warren Zevon. His collaboration on Zevons final album, The Wind, garnered Brad a Grammy Award in 2003. Winning this Grammy was exciting, but the real bomb was working with rock and roll legend Warren Zevon. I didnt just work on his record_I worked on his very last record. Additionally, Brad's two solo recordings on FGM Records "I'm Not Gonna Let My Blues Bring Me Down," and "This World Ain't No Child Anymore" both received rave reviews. A prolific songwriter, Brads compositions have been recorded by various country and bluegrass artists, including country star Tim McGraw ("Ain't No Angels"), Jo El-Sonnier ("Can't Give My Heart Away"), Billy Bob Thornton ("Beautiful Door, Always Countin'"), Grasstowne ("Love You Don't Know"), Hometown News ("All The Time"), and Tony Trischka ("I'm Singing Harmony"). But when Brad isnt shredding out tunes or lending out his talent, he spends his spare time teaching guitar and writing about his beloved instrument. He has been a columnist for Flatpicking Guitar Magazine since 1996, and produced several instructional DVDs for them as well as Mel Bay Publications, including the Blue Book of Speedpicking. With expert fingers and a penchant for all things guitar, Brad has the knowledge and skill of a veteran in the biz. With his long, varied history as a performer, The Shredder is ready to kick off his solo career with style, attitude and charisma. Read More at: www.NashvilleBMG.com
